The second part to my Ursula redesign would be the wedding dress for Vanessa. In the rough libretto from before the broadway hit the stage, Vanessa (Ursula's alter-ego) was still in the script as the one who steals the prince away. I prefer this story line to the one they went with.

I absolutely love the prints on her dress! Especially with the cream to blue-white. And very much so how the hair is swooped once like Ariel's. Beautiful!

I prefer this version as well. And your other redesign was AWESOME. The only thing I can give to the Broadway version was that they actually did give Eric a chance at falling in love with Ariel on her own merits rather than him suddenly discovering it was her all along...but the American Idol contest was pretty, well, stupid. In fact they could have done the whole show SO much better. What went wrong in development?

I don't know. The broadway prerun they held in Colorado before it went to broadway utilized the Vanessa storyline... Something happened between Colorado and New York.

Oh I love the wedding dress--especially the squid and tentacle designs on it.
I was very upset that the Broadway version took out my favorite part of the movie--where Ursula attempts to lure Eric away from Ariel in the guise of Vanessa and instead replaced it with an "American Idol" like singing contest for Eric to rediscover his dream girl.

I COMPLETELY agree with that! Vanessa was a much more believable reason Eric wont choose mute Ariel... the way the musical had it, Eric seems like a completely ignorant tool.

This is awesome! I love Vanessa and I hate how they took the idea out of the stage version, there's so much that annoyed me about that musical D: is it still running on broadwAy? X
