I prefer it to the ending in the film, primarily because I found the three "good fairies" more cruelly manipulative than Malificent: while she cursed the christening baby to a young death, the "good fairies" took the child away from her parents for the entirety of her life, lied to her about her identity, forced her into a role she did not want as princess, completely manipulated the prince so that none of his victories had anything to do with him, and in the final sequence even usurped control of what color gown Briar Rose nee Aurora was allowed to wear. And why did they have to take her away when one of them had already cancelled out the death with a blessing that made it a magic sleep? In the end, their efforts to keep her from pricking her finger as per both Malificent's curse and their own blessing failed anyway, so really, there was no reason she couldn't have spent the 16 years with her parents in her own castle.
Also: until I viewed this and your Wicked Queen portrait, I hadn't noticed that the two most awesome of all Disney villainesses both had pet corvids! (It strikes me as fitting that the Wicked Queen has more of an ill-fed crow and Malificent has more of a wickedly sleek raven who acts as her eyes and ears -- perhaps kidnapped from Odin?)
